I’ll admit, I’m a bit of a technology nut.  So when it comes to different tools to make my life simple, I’m all over it.  Here are five that I’ve found to be very useful.

1. FileThis.com

Paperless bills are great, but then you still have to download and save the bill on your harddrive, and back that up, etc, etc.  FileThis lets you connect up to six accounts for free, pulls out the statements, saves and organizes them in their bank-grade secure site.  One login, and I can see all my bills and statements.

2. ItsDeductible

If you donate a lot of stuff to charities throughout the year, take a look at this service created by the great minds at TurboTax and Intuit.  You can thank me later.  Instead of a mad dash at the end of the year to try and remember all the different contributions you made, log them in here.  It even suggest common values for items donated.  Print a report at the end of the year for your accountant or if you use TurboTax, you can download the information directly.

3. Box.com or Dropbox.com

Online storage has become indispensable.  Besides making it easy to share larger files with co-workers or family, these services can be incredibly helpful by storing important documents, ensuring you’re prepared in case of a fire, flood, or other natural disaster.

4. Mint.com

I’ve used Quicken for many years for personal finances until discovering mint.com.  While it doesn’t have all the features of Quicken, it will let you track your spending, and, best feature of all, doesn’t make you type all your transactions.  Take the time to categorize your spending, and mint will learn what companies and transactions are what.  It’s perfect for a high level overview of your spending.

5. DocuBank

When you create your estate plan, you’ll have a number of important legal documents.  How do you get these documents to the right people when they need them?  DocuBank answers that question, by letting you create a secure file storage and rules for when your agents can access the documents.  More importantly for you, they give you a card to carry in your wallet for emergency personnel to access your Advance Health Care Directive immediately.  Contact our office to set your personal account up today.
